The SAG-AFTRA strike has taken its first big toll of the 2024 summer blockbuster season, as Marvel Studios has officially abandoned Deadpool 3′s May 2024 release date.
Marvel Studios has been hoping beyond hope to maintain the coveted release date of May 2024 for Deadpool 3 despite the WGA and SAG-AFTRA Strikes. While there was previously hope that the film would make its date, with Marvel putting it as its “top priority” post-strikes, a recent breakdown in talks has forced Deadpool 3 to be delayed.
It’s currently unclear what release date Deadpool 3 will ultimately pick up. The next MCU film, Captain America: Brave New World, debuts on July 26, 2024. As that project has already finished filming, Marvel Studios may swap their dates to keep their schedules on track. However, until the studios choose to end the SAG-AFTRA strike, nobody can know for sure.
Who else is attached to the Deadpool threequel?
Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 after working with Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. The upcoming Marvel Studios project also marks a reunion between Levy and Hugh Jackman as the two worked together on Real Steel.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are developing the Deadpool 3 script after penning the first two installments in the series. The Molyneux sisters worked on a previous draft of the project.
Deadpool 3 currently has no release date due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
