Deadpool and Wolverine is putting in maximum effort at the box office! Marvel’s newest film has smashed multiple records with an earth-shaking opening weekend.
Nobody was shocked at the idea of Deadpool and Wolverine doing well on its opening weekend. All projections showed that Marvel had a historic box office on their hands. Early tracking showed that the film would make an astonishing $160-165 million domestically in its initial sprint. However, it seems even the most optimistic of analyses fell short of reality.
A new report by Variety revealed that Deadpool and Wolverine made a behemoth $211 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend. This puts the film as the sixth-highest opening box office of all time, along with the best opening weekend ever for an R-rated movie. It’s important to note that the only films above it in the ranking are massive Marvel and Disney tentpoles like Star Wars and Spider-Man.
Deadpool And Wolverine Stars React To Box Office Blowout
The industry wasn’t the only one shocked about how massive Deadpool and Wolverine‘s opening weekend truly was. Both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have put out their own statements about how mindblowing it is for their Marvel film to be dominating the box office, not just domestically, but all across the globe.
“This is kind of hard to process,” Reynolds explained on his Instagram story. “But thank you to everyone who went to see the film this weekend.”
“Wolverine and Deadpool is the #1 movie in the world.” Jackman wrote in his own post on Instagram. “Thank you ALL!”
Deadpool and Wolverine is proof that Marvel, or any other brand, doesn’t need massive IP to make a box office hit. Sometimes all they need are good talent like Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, as well as a story that the fans would love to see play out. Either that or Dogpool was adorable enough to smash all box office records for the opening weekend!
