Could Deadpool and Wolverine have been even funnier? Concept art reveals a deleted scene featuring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds at a diner.
Deadpool and Wolverine was full of hilarious moments between Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. One of the most unique was the two stars sharing a meal in an abandoned diner, complete with Wolverine chugging rubbing alcohol. However, concept art reveals a deleted scene that would have been fairly similar to the final product, but different in a few key ways.
The concept art, as revealed by concept designer Phil Saunders, shows Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds in a diner. Yet, as opposed to the final scene in Deadpool and Wolverine, this deleted scene takes place in a bustling kitchen with clean and modern food. According to Saunders, this was meant to be an homage to the iconic scene between Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in the film Heat.

Yet it seems this diner homage wasn’t the only deleted scene revealed in Phil Saunder’s concept art. The artist also showed off a scrapped variant played by Hugh Jackman that would’ve been featured in Ryan Reynolds’ multiversal X-Men hunt in Deadpool and Wolverine. This particular variant would’ve been a reference to the hero straight out of the Weapon X program, as well as a small nod to the film X-Men: Apocalypse, where the scene is recreated.
While it’s a shame that neither deleted scene found its way into Deadpool and Wolverine, it was likely the right call to leave these ideas on the cutting room floor. Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were already fighting against a cramped movie to complete their characters arcs. So even though all fans have is the concept art, a better film was born out of this sacrifice.
