Chris Evans is still looking HOT! Newly released concept art for Deadpool and Wolverine gives fans an early concept of the actor’s return as the Human Torch.
Theaters across the globe erupted when Chris Evans showed his pretty face in Deadpool and Wolverine. While at first some thought he was playing Captain America, it was clear that the actor was there to reprise his role as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch. His role was shortlived (literally), but certainly stuck out in the minds of fans.
While Johnny Storm may only live on in the hearts of fans, his concept art is still looking clean. Drawn up by John Staub, senior illustrator at Marvel Studios, these early designs are remarkably close to how Chris Evans looked on the big screen in Deadpool and Wolverine. Albeit, this shows him in his hermit gear prior to revealing himself as the Human Torch!

Chris Evans Reflects On Human Torch Return
Fans weren’t the only ones excited to see Johnny Storm back in Deadpool and Wolverine. Chris Evans himself was just as ecstatic at the opportunity as the fans were to see him. When speaking to Entertainment Weekly about his return as the Human Torch, he admitted that Ryan Reynolds may have been the only person to get him to do that cameo.
“I was so excited,” Evans explained. “Ryan’s a buddy. He just shot me a text saying, ‘Listen, might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?’ I said, ‘Oh my God! Of course.'”
“Honestly, Ryan might be the only guy that I would’ve done it for because he’s just got the Midas touch. His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you’re going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan’s humor makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety.”
It’s good to hear that, even before the concept art was drawn up, Chris Evans was entirely on-board with making his return as the Human Torch. Fans have loved his take on Johnny Storm for literal decades, even in spite of the lackluster duology it came from. So it’s good that the hero got to take one final bow in Deadpool and Wolverine.
