Could Channing Tatum actually come back as Gambit? A newly released deleted scene from Deadpool and Wolverine teases his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Channing Tatum enraptured the internet with his role as Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine, bringing a literal decades-long fight to play the iconic character to an end. Fans loved him so much that a movement has begun to form hoping to get Tatum to play the iconic mutant in the MCU proper when the X-Men finally return to the big screen. However, many pointed out that the character’s ambiguous ending meant it might not be possible.
Yet the tune of the entire internet changed when Ryan Reynolds released a new deleted scene from Deadpool and Wolverine. In it, it seems that Channing Tatum finds a way out of the Void and back to his own universe. While it’s not shown where the iconic hero ends up, many take this as a sign that he could be making the jump into the MCU, or at least a universe tangent enough to be explored in one of the next two Avengers films centered around the Marvel Multiverse.
Channing Tatum’s Future As Gambit In The MCU
Some fans truly believe that, given the ending of Deadpool and Wolverine saw Hugh Jackman’s character end up in a new timeline, this portal could be Channing Tatum’s literal gateway into the MCU as Gambit. This would line up with what fans know about the upcoming X-Men reboot, with rumors suggesting that Gambit will play a leading role as a member of the team.
However, the Sacred Timeline isn’t the only world in the MCU. Some speculate that, even if there wasn’t a specific world in mind when crafting this deleted scene in Deadpool and Wolverine, it could be leading to the world inhabited by Beast and Binary as seen at the end of The Marvels. This would allow Channing Tatum to return as Gambit, without Marvel tying its hands when it comes to the upcoming X-Men reboot.
