Marvel isn’t done with Hugh Jackman just yet! A new rumor suggests the studio wants the star to reunite with Ryan Reynolds for a sequel to Deadpool and Wolverine.
Marvel struck gold with Deadpool and Wolverine. The film served as a box office win for the struggling studio, and quickly become one of the most beloved projects among fans for finally bringing together Ryan Reynolds’ and Hugh Jackman’s iconic heroes on the silver screen. (Well, ignoring the first time they did it). However, given the nature of the movie, many didn’t have high hopes for a sequel being greenlit.
Yet it seems, for once, fans may be dreaming too small for reality. According to a new rumor from scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Ryan Reynolds is in active discussions with Marvel Studios about a sequel to Deadpool and Wolverine. Hugh Jackman has also reportedly expressed interest in making a return for the project if it gets greenlit by the company.
Will Deadpool And Wolverine Get A Sequel?
With Marvel Studios’ next phase going all-in on mutants, it makes sense that it would want its most popular characters from that corner of the universe to keep making films together. It’s almost a guarantee that a sequel to Deadpool and Wolverine would make a killing at the box office, especially if Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are brought into the MCU proper.
The ending of Deadpool and Wolverine also sets up a sequel perfectly. Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth and Hugh Jackman’s Canadian Klaw-Man are return to their families at the end of the film, while also bringing them together for a more permanent arrangement. This allows any follow-up Marvel greenlights to use the full extent of each character’s lore, regardless of what villain they may face in the next phase of the multiverse.
