Deadpool 2 director David Leitch discussed the Merc with a Mouth’s future under Disney and the absence of a sequel on Marvel Studios’ upcoming slate.

While key Disney and Marvel Studios figures have hinted at plans to continue using Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool following the acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets, a third film featuring the Merc with a Mouth was noticeably absent from the recently-announced Phase 4 slate of the MCU. In an interview with Uproxx, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch revealed that he is currently unaware of what Marvel Studios has planned for the character, though he is trying to find out:

“I don’t, honestly. And it’s not for my lack of trying. And I also want to give – I’m just giving everybody their time.”

While Marve Studios did not list a Deadpool sequel on the Phase 4 schedule, David Leitch stated he believed they will find a way to include the Merc with a Mouth in their plans at some point and that he hopes to be involved:

“[…] I know Marvel announced their slate and I think people were like, “Deadpool’s not on it.” I would never say never. And I think, obviously, he’s such a beloved character and it’s such a compelling world people want to go back. And I think they will find a way to do it. But I’m just being patient and let everybody take a breath and see how it works for them in the new Marvel, Disney world. And, hopefully, I’ll get the call. And that would be cool.”
