Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have revealed the superhero sequel filmed brand new scenes for its upcoming PG-13 re-release.
In September, Deadpool 2 was revealed to be returning to theaters this Holiday season on December 21, 2018. Only the Merc with a Mouth wouldn’t be returning to theaters with the previously released theatrical cut, nor would the Super Duper Cut be getting a wide release, but rather the studio would be releasing a PG-13 rated cut more friendly to families heading out to the theater for the holidays.
Speaking with Slashfilm, Reese and Wernick revealed new scenes were filmed specifically for the upcoming PG-13 two months ago, along with confirming Ryan Reynolds return for the new scenes. Wernick explained:
“We definitely shot new stuff. And recently too. After Deadpool 2 came out and we were all sitting around, we came to it less about the idea of let’s make a PG-13 movie and more, ‘Let’s talk a little bit about Deadpool.’ We were kicking around some ideas and then I think it was Ryan [Reynolds] who had the great framing device and we all got excited and went to the studio. They said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it. Fire up the cameras.’ About two months ago we were out on soundstages shooting again. Ryan was in the suit and the gang was back together, Dave Leitch and Ryan and us having a great time and laughing. It comes together great so we’re super excited about it.”
UPDATE: Collider’s Steve Weintraub has confirmed new scenes are still being filmed for the upcoming PG-13 re-release:

Reese and Wernick remained tight-lipped on additional cast members returning for the new scenes but did assure fans that the story wasn’t being altered in any significant way but rather to have more fun with the existing plot.
Directed by David Leith from a script written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.
After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste.
