Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first official poster for Dune: Part Two, directed by Denis Villeneuve. The upcoming science-fiction epic brings audiences back into the fictional desert planet of Arrakis, with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya spearheading the cast.
The release of the Dune: Part Two poster comes just ahead of the first trailer for the movie, which is set to debut online in the coming days. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a sneak peek at the sequel, which was showcased during the recent CinemaCon event in Las Vegas.
The first Dune movie ended on a cliffhanger, with Paul Atreidis and his companions escaping into the desert, setting the stage for the sequel. Dune: Part Two is expected to continue the story of Paul as he becomes a messiah figure for the native people of the planet Arrakis, the site of the spice trade.
A joint venture between Warner Bros. and Legendary, Dune is based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. The movie opened in theaters in October 2018 and earned $401.8 million at the worldwide box office, along with six Oscars during the 94th Academy Awards.
What to expect from the Dune sequel
The official Dune: Part Two synopsis reads as follows: “This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
The Dune sequel cast also includes Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux and Souheila Yacoub. In addition to directing the movie, Denis Villeneuve also co-wrote the script with Jon Spaihts.
