Marvel Studios appears to be searching for a different director for Avengers: Secret Wars, despite hiring Destin Daniel Cretton for The Kang Dynasty.
At San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, Marvel Studios surprised Hall H by announcing two Avengers films for 2025. The Kang Dynasty will hit theaters on May 2, 2025, while Secret Wars will arrive on November 7, 2025. With both films so close together, it was expected that Marvel Studios would film them back-to-back as they did with Infinity War and Endgame.
Following the announcement of the next Avengers films, it was reported that Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton would helm The Kang Dynasty. On Wednesday, Deadline‘s Justin Kroll shared on Twitter that Marvel Studios appears to be looking for a different director for Secret Wars, which means the next two Avengers films might not film simultaneously.
Unless Destin Daniel Cretton ends up directing Secret Wars, the 2025 Avengers projects might not be the two-parter we’ve gotten in the past. Perhaps The Kang Dynasty will be focused on a different team, such as the Young Avengers, while Secret Wars involves another.
Who Will Direct Secret Wars?
It seems Marvel Studios likes to hand their Avengers films off to filmmakers they’ve worked with, so Jon Watts, Ryan Coogler, or Peyton Reed could all be potential options for Secret Wars. One choice Kevin Feige has already ruled out for Secret Wars is the Russo Brothers.
Here is the synopsis for Avengers: Endgame:
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sebastian Stan, and Josh Brolin.
Avengers: Endgame is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
