Kevin Feige shared after Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con presentation that the Russo Brothers will not direct the next Avengers films.
One of the biggest announcements to come out of Hall H on Saturday during Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con panel was the reveal of two Avengers films. The next will be titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. On November 7, 2025, Phase Six will conclude with Avengers: Secret Wars.
Captain America and Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo are working on other projects outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, they have made it clear that they would love to helm a Secret Wars film. However, Kevin Feige spoke to Deadline after their big Hall H panel and revealed the Russos would not direct the upcoming Avengers films:
“They’re not connected to it. They’ve been very direct about that. We love them, they love us. We want to find something to do together, it’s not this.”
Who Will Direct the Next Avengers Films?
While the Russo Brothers might not return to helm The Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars, the duo have also expressed interest in helming Marvel Studios’ inevitable X-Men reboot. As for who could direct the next Avengers films, filmmakers like Peyton Reed, James Gunn, and Jon Watts seem like potential options, given their experience working with Marvel Studios.
Kevin Feige might also choose to go with Sam Raimi, who recently reunited with Marvel for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Whoever they pick, it seems Marvel would likely film the next Avengers films back-to-back, similar to what they did for Infinity War and Endgame.
Here is the synopsis for Avengers: Endgame:
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sebastian Stan, and Josh Brolin.
Avengers: Endgame is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
