Lucasfilm has released the first official poster and trailer for the upcoming prequel series starring Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor.
A series following Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was announced all the way back in 2018. New details such as the show’s title and a behind-the-scenes look at its cinematic scale were revealed during Disney Investor Day in 2020.
During the “Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase” panel at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, the first full trailer for Andor finally debuted in front of fans. The trailer has now been made online, and you can check it out below along with an official poster for the series.
A Summer Release
In addition to the first footage shown in the trailer, it was also revealed Andor would premiere on August 31st on Disney Plus. The first season will feature 12 episodes, with a second season expected to film soon. Andor will follow Obi-Wan Kenobi, the next Star Wars series to hit the streaming service, kicking off with a two-episode premiere on Friday.
Diego Luna first appeared as Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Here is the synopsis for the film:
Former scientist Galen Erso lives on a farm with his wife and young daughter, Jyn. His peaceful existence comes crashing down when the evil Orson Krennic takes him away from his beloved family. Many years later, Galen becomes the Empire’s lead engineer for the most powerful weapon in the galaxy, the Death Star. Knowing that her father holds the key to its destruction, Jyn joins forces with a spy and other resistance fighters to steal the space station’s plans for the Rebel Alliance.
Directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay co-written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy based on a story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta, Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.
