According to a new report from WDW News Today, details about the numerous attractions for the upcoming Marvel themed area that is currently under construction at Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA have been revealed.
The addition of the attraction Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! was the first step into a further expansion of the presence of Marvel characters at Disney California Adventure. Earlier this year, the A Bug’s Land section at the park permanently closed to make way for the new Marvel attractions.
Disney says that Phase 1 of this Marvel expansion at Disney California Adventure will open to guests in 2020 with Phase 2 to be ready sometime after.
The theater that formerly hosted It’s Tough to Be a Bug! is said to be re-purposed as a Spider-Man attraction. According to the report, the attraction is expected to be screen based and may utilize 3D for guests to enjoy. WDW News Today compares the attraction to the interactive nature of Toy Story Midway Mania! and involves web shooting. The interactive nature of this attraction sounds quite exciting and could be a great way for Disney Imagineers to distinguish this attraction from Universal’s Islands of Adventure’s acclaimed ride, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.
The report describes the themed land as The Avengers’ California campus as a result of the central hub being a large Avengers symbol that is surrounded by all the attractions.
Another attraction for the upcoming land includes a show featuring Doctor Strange. It is expected to be similar to a themed show from the Disney Cruise Line:
The report also describes that a major E-Ticket attraction centered on The Avengers will be in the new land. The attraction is expected to be a new roller coaster, which would make it the third roller coaster at Disney California Adventure including the Incredicoaster and Goofy’s Sky School.
Shops, quick service restaurants and a microbrewery will also be offered at the new land. Obviously, the microbrewery will be fittingly themed to Ant-Man, which explains why there’s a giant canned beverage present on the promotional poster.
With both this new area currently under construction and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge set to open across the way to the original Disneyland Park, Walt Disney Imagineering is finally taking advantage of all of the exciting properties now under the umbrella thanks to the acquisitions of both Marvel and Lucasfilm. It’s only a matter of time before we get new attractions based on some of the biggest properties under 20th Century Fox once the merger is finalized.
