Disney’s upcoming live-action version of Mulan could once again be pushed back due to ongoing concerns over the coronavirus.
Since the coronavirus hit the United States many business were forced to change the way they operate and/or shut down altogether. This included the film industry which saw many of its biggest films pushed back. Some were pushed back by a few months while others were bumped by an entire year. This, of course, included Disney’s upcoming live-action version of Mulan.
The film was originally set to be released on March 27th of 2020 before being pushed back because of the coronavirus. The new release dates for the film is currently July 24th of 2020. Unfortunately, Disney’s Mulan just may be pushed back once again.
According to a report from Deadline, there is general discomfort with Mulan‘s current release date. The report notes the surge in coronavirus cases in California could factor into any decisions regarding the release of the film. It also notes that Disney may have been banking on Tenet to be the first big film to open to theaters and doesn’t like the idea of Mulan replacing it. Perhaps more importantly, the Chinese audience was expected to play a major part in the film’s box office haul and there is currently no telling when Chinese theaters will reopen. However, until we hear anything from Disney, there is currently no telling where the film will land.
