Ryan Reynolds’ proposed Deadpool and Bambi crossover was shot down by Disney execs.

Fans have eagerly awaited Ryan Reynolds’ formal debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since Disney purchased Fox. Thanks to a promotional video for Free Guy, the character did technically crossover with the franchise earlier last month. The video saw Deadpool and Korg (Taika Waititi’s rock alien/warrior from Thor: Ragnarok) reacting to the latest Free Guy trailer in a similar fashion to YouTube reaction channels. Before that video was pitched, Reynolds had another idea up his sleeve and it involved everyone’s favorite deer: Bambi.

In a chat with IGN, Ryan Reynolds revealed that he originally pitched a crossover that saw the hunter who killed Bambi’s mom being interrogated by Deadpool. Disney swiftly shot the crossover down.

“I wanted to do a short film of Deadpool interrogating the hunter who killed Bambi’s mom. But the whole gist of it is that Deadpool is actually just a huge fan. He’s not interrogating – he just wants to know how he could be the most loathed Disney character in the history of Disney… and of course, Disney was like, ‘well, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.'”

After the Bambi crossover was shot down, Ryan Reynolds went back to the drawing board and eventually stumbled upon the Korg crossover, which brilliantly linked Deadpool to the MCU. It also served as a hilarious way to tease Reynolds’ upcoming Free Guy, which was produced by Fox.

“Then we came back to them – we wrote the Deadpool-Korg piece… and we sent it to them, and they said, ‘yes!’. So, my next call was to Taika [Waititi] and Taika was in… Taika’s an actual genius so I was thrilled to collaborate with him as this kind of character.”
