Disneyland and Disney World will keep their doors closed indefinitley due to concerns over the coronavirus.
The coronavirus continues to affect the world in ways that have not been seen in our lifetime. Schools have closed for the remainder of the year, only essential business are allowed to remain open, and public gathers have been all but banned. Now Disneyland and Disney World will be keeping their doors closed indefinitely due to the pandemic.
Both Disneyland and Disney World were originally set to reopen their doors on Wednesday, April 1st. The parks were closed earlier this month, making it the third time the parks had done so. Disneyland first closed its doors in 1963 after President John F. Kennedy was shot and both parks shut down after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Hourly employees of the theme parks, will, however, continue to be paid through April 18th. California, the home state of Disneyland is currently under a stay-at-home order which forbids any non-essential business from opening until the order is lifted, which includes the iconic happeist place on Earth. In a statement, the company stated that people’s heal remains a priority and was behind the decision to remain closed:
“While there is still much uncertainty with respect to the impacts of COVID-19, the safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains The Walt Disney Company’s top priority. As a result of this unprecedented pandemic and in line with direction provided by health experts and government officials, Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort will remain closed until further notice.”
