One of the biggest mysteries still left for Avengers: Doomsday is what Doctor Doom will actually look like in the film. Fans have had event banners, costume pieces, and even a comic-con reveal to tease his aesthetic. However, there’s yet to be one official piece of promo art or a photo that gives fans EVERYTHING they want from a costume reveal.
But this most recent piece of promo art does get close. The art, which has been spotted on t-shirts in the wild, puts the focus on Doctor Doom’s face and mask. Avengers: Doomsday seems to be taking major inspiration from Alex Ross’ iconic take on the character, specifically from the cover of the Books of Doom comic.

Yet fans should take a closer look at that promo art. While most were distracted by how accurate Doctor Doom’s mask will look in Avengers: Doomsday, they didn’t notice that his face was literally being pulled apart in chunks. This is a motif that anyone familiar with the comics should recall, as it’s very similar to the visual style used to represent incursions.
This promo art, if taken perhaps a bit too literally, could be revealing that Doctor Doom will be a victim of an incursion in Avengers: Doomsday. If the rumor mill is to be believed, this could serve as confirmation that the villain lost his wife and child in an incursion, which serves as his motivation for the upcoming film.
