A new series of character posters for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from Marvel Studios tease the return of Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen and other key cast members.

The new posters show Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong’s Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo, Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer and newcomer Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez. The posters show fragmented images of the characters’ faces, outlined in an ominous red glow – possibly a sign of the Scarlet Witch’s power at play, hinting at her role in the multiversal chaos the film will explore.

Little is known of the role Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, A.K.A. Scarlet Witch, will play in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Early rumors suggested she would be taking on a villainous role opposite Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange, however trailers have shown the two apparently allying with one another. After the conclusion to WandaVision, which saw Wanda discovering the true extent of her power and being confronted with the horror of the damage her grief had caused to so many lives, it seems more likely that Wanda’s role will dwell in a gray area between hero and villain. Check out the new character posters below:

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will pick up where Spider-Man: No Way Home left off, following the dire consequences of Stephen Strange’s meddling with the multiverse. Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez, also featured on the posters above, is a universe-hopping hero who will make her MCU debut in the movie, after she was cut from early drafts of No Way Home.

Here is the synopsis for the upcoming film:

The MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Directed by Sam Raimi from a script written by Michael Waldron, the Marvel movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, and Patrick Stewart.
