A new clip from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer turn to Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda for help, ruling out Avengers such as Hawkeye and Spider-Man.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees the return of both Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, or as she’s now known, the Scarlet Witch. Wanda was last seen in the Disney Plus series WandaVision, in which she finally realized the true extent of her magical abilities and, in her grief, unwittingly imprisoned and enslaved an entire town. After coming to terms with the horror of what she had done and relinquishing the false reality she had created, Wanda then went to live in seclusion.
The Doctor Strange sequel sees Strange approaching Wanda for help in handling a threat from across the multiverse. A new clip that has surfaced online reveals exactly why he needs Wanda’s help and why he turned to her over any other Avengers. The clip sees Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange telling Wanda that he has met a girl who can travel across the multiverse – Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez – and that she is being pursued by “some kind of demon.”
When Strange says he could use the help of an Avenger, Wanda protests that “There are other Avengers.” Strange then tells her that “given the choice between the archer with the mohawk and several bug-themed crimefighters, or one of the most powerful magic-wielders on the planet… it’s an easy call.” The little dig at Avengers such as Hawkeye, Ant-Man and Spider-Man only further highlights the overwhelming power of the Scarlet Witch. Check out the new clip below:
Wanda appears reluctant to return to the life of an Avenger after the events that unfolded in Westview, but perhaps the arrival of America Chavez in the MCU will help stir her back into action, bringing to bear the power of the Scarlet Witch.
