The multiverse is a scary place...

Marvel Studios has released a final poster for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and it speaks to the film’s horror roots while teasing its multiple realities.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now just 10 days away from its general release in the US and a new trailer from Marvel offers a glimpse of the terrifying new corners of the MCU that are about to be explored. The Doctor Strange sequel has been called the MCU’s first horror film and director Sam Raimi, whose background was in horror before he went on to direct the biggest pre-MCU Marvel franchise in the Spider-Man films, is a perfect choice to deliver exactly that.

The new poster, which depicts Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet and the rest of the supporting cast in blood red and fiery orange glows, has the look of a classic horror movie poster. Variants of each character are out in force here, most notably a selection of Stranges – Defender Strange, the zombified Strange and a suit-wearing Strange (presumably the one seen attending a wedding in the trailers).

Digging further into the film’s horror elements, the bottom of the poster shows two seated skeletons, posed like Rodin’s The Thinker. Between them, America Chavez and Wong can be seen suspended in the air and wreathed in flame before Wanda, who is at an almost satanic altar. The film looks set to delve into the darker sides of all its central characters and Marvel fans should certainly expect to be scared by this entry in the Doctor Strange franchise.
