Director Sam Raimi has provided an update on the status of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.

The In The Multiverse Of Madness title for the Doctor Stange sequel could arguably be used for a documentary about the film’s production. When the film was first announced it was expected that the first film’s director, Scott Derrickson would return. Unfortunately, he and Marvel parted ways for reasons that are not entirely clear. Eventually, Spider-Man director Sam Raimi was brought on to direct the film but things for the film refused to calm down.

Like many other movies, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness was delayed numerous times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This eventually proved to be something to be a boon as writer Michael Waldron and Sam Raimi had to start the film essentially from scratch which gave them enough time to properly develop the script before they started shooting. But, as it tuned out, even after the delays, they still needed time to properly shoot everything.

Back in November, it was revealed that the Sam Raimi Doctor Strange film had to undergo significant reshoots. The reshoots lasted six weeks and were due to a number of things, including, but not limited to, actor availability and additional issues brought on due to Covid-19. At long last, the reshoots seem to be at an end but even the director can’t say this for sure.

While speaking to Variety, Sam Raimi was asked about the status of the film and whether or not it was complete. The director seemed to think they were done but you never really know until you see it:

“I wish I knew the answer to that question. I think we’re done, but we just cut everything. We’re just starting to test the picture and we’ll find out if there’s anything that’s got to be picked up. If something’s unclear or another improvement I can make in this short amount of time left, I’ll do it. One thing I know about the Marvel team is they won’t stop. They’ll keep pushing it until it’s as close to being great as it could.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently set to open in theaters on May 6, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
