A new TV spot for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness recalls the words of Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One as she spoke about the multiverse in 2016’s Doctor Strange.
When Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange was introduced in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange, he was intitiated into the ways of sorcery and the mystic arts by the Ancient One, a mysterious, ageless, all-powerful sorcerer, as played by Tilda Swinton. Strange is reluctant to listen to the Ancient One at first, disbelieving her talk of magic and spirit. However, she soon makes a believer of the man of science, as she sends him traveling across dimensions and demonstrates her magical ability. It is this moment that sets Strange on the path to becoming the Master of the Mystic Arts, but it is also this moment that includes the MCU’s first reference to the multiverse.
A new TV spot for next month’s sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, revisits the Ancient One’s speech as she opens Strange’s eyes to the infinite realities that surround his own, telling him “This universe is only one of an infinite number.” In the new TV spot, the Ancient One’s voice gives way to Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo as the speech ends, culminating in the question: “Who are you in this vast multiverse?” Check out the new TV spot for Multiverse of Madness below:
The TV spot includes glimpses of Defender Strange, Wanda Maximoff destroying an Ultron drone’s head and Mordo drawing a sword to fight with Doctor Strange in what is believed to be the location of Strange’s meeting with the Illuminati. When the Ancient One first mentioned the multiverse, fans probably never expected it to be explored quite so thoroughly.
