‘Doctor Strange’ Completes Its Box Office Run With $232 Million

Disney and Marvel's 'Doctor Strange' completes its domestic box office run with a gross total of $232.6 million after 19 weeks.

After nineteen weeks at the domestic box office, Doctor Strange has completed its run with a gross total of $232.6 million. At the global box office, its numbers swell to even higher with a grand total of $677 million. The film opened in November of 2016 and has since claimed the title of the thirteenth highest-grossing film of last year.

This is another success for Disney who, most recently, has seen plenty of success with Beauty and the Beast’s box office numbers after only two weeks in theaters. There’s no doubt that superheroes and live-action adaptations of the studio’s most beloved animations are what is bringing in the cash right now.

Doctor Strange opened with $85 million, making it the fifth highest-grossing Disney Marvel property so far. The film had a budget of $165 million and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will be appearing next in the next major Marvel Cinematic Universe installment, Avengers: Infinity War.

Most recently, director Scott Derrickson teased which villains he’d like to see in the movie’s sequel. There has been no formal announcement for a sequel, but it’s only a matter of time now before we hear about one in the works in any official capacity.

The movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, and Mads Mikkelsen as Kaecilius.

Doctor Strange is now available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and Digital HD.
