Dominique Thorne will make her first appearance as Riri Williams in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
First appearing in Invincible Iron Man #7 in 2016, Riri Williams was one of the replacement heroes introduced into the Marvel comic universe following the Secret Wars event. The character would eventually get her own comic and became the main Iron Man character, taking up the name Ironheart, following Tony Stark’s critical injury during the events of Civil War II. When Riri Williams was first introduced many wondered how long it would take before she would be added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Back in December of 2020, Marvel Studios made the official announcement that Ironheart would be one of the original series the company was producing for Disney Plus. Since then the show has added a head writer but has not announced any kind of release date window. While this is still the case, we now know that Dominique Thorne will make her debut as Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
While speaking to Comicbook.com, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams would be In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. He did not go into how big for a role she would have in the upcoming film:
“We’re shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first. She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series.”
Here is the synopsis for the first Black Panther film:
After the death of his father, the king of Wakanda, young T’Challa returns home to the isolated high-tech African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king – and Black Panther – is tested when he’s drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, he must release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.
