Don Cheadle’s planned Armor Wars Disney Plus Marvel series is now being developed as a feature film.

Way back in late 2020, it was revealed that a new Armor Wars series was in development for Disney Plus. Details for the show were hard to come by but stories started to steadily come out. Yassir Lester was tapped as the show’s lead writer and star Don Cheadle has occasionally provided updates on the series. Now it appears that the reason for a lack of updates on the series is due to a shift in vision.

The Project Shifts Direction

According to The Hollywood Reporter, however, Don Cheadle’s Armor War series is being converted into a feature film. Yassir Lester will stay on board as the film’s main writer. The series was originally set to begin production in 2023 but will likely be pushed back due to this change. It’s not entirely clear why Marvel Studios opted to convert it into a film. Sources, however, stated that a major factor was that the story that they wanted to tell was better suited to being a film as opposed to a six-part streaming series.

Here’s the official synopsis for Don Cheadle’s last MCU appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier:

Following the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience—in Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.”

Directed by Kari Skogland from scripts written by showrunner Malcolm Spellman and Derek Kolstad, the series stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent. Desmond Chiam, Miki Ishikawa, Noah Mills, and Carl Lumbly also appear.
