War Machine actor Don Cheadle revealed at D23 Expo that his contract with Marvel Studios has expired.
Don Cheadle has been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2010’s Iron Man 2, where he replaced Terrence Howard as War Machine. Cheadle has gone on to appear in several Marvel projects since and will finally headline his own project with the Armor Wars series for Disney Plus.
Before Armor Wars, Don Cheadle will turn up in Secret Invasion. Marvel Studios used to be known for signing their talent to massive contracts featuring many film appearances, but Kevin Feige has revealed they have gone away from that as of late. Oscar Isaac, for instance, doesn’t have a big deal with Marvel Studios, so his contract was up after one season of Moon Knight.
Are War Machine’s Days Numbered?
Marvel doesn’t appear to be resigning stars that have been in the MCU for a while either. While Don Cheadle has two major Marvel shows coming up, the actor revealed to Variety that he is no longer contractually obligated to appear as War Machine in the MCU:
“I’m done with my contracted years in the MCU. If something sounds fun and I’m presented with it, it’s like, ‘Yeah, let’s go.’”
