Don Cheadle is said to be playing the villain in LeBron James’ Space Jam 2.

Last summer, it was reported that Avengers star Don Cheadle has joined the cast of Space Jam 2 opposite LeBron James. While some suspected or hoped Don Cheadle would be playing a fictional version himself, as Bill Murray did in the original film, the Avengers star later clarified that this was not the case.

However, it has now been revealed that Don Cheadle will portray the villain of Space Jam 2. The news was revealed by Don Cheadle’s Black Monday co-star Paul Scheer during an appearance on the Clip City podcast:

“Actually Don Cheadle, who I do Black Monday with, he’s the bad guy in Space Jam [2], and he said LeBron’s really great. He was great in Trainwreck too.”

Are you excited to see Don Cheadle play an antagonist to the Looney Tunes and LeBron James? Let us know in the comments section below.

Released in 1996, the original film told the story of the Looney Tunes’ efforts to win a basketball competition after the beloved cartoon characters challenge alien invaders to a game in order to secure their freedom. However, the aliens steal the talent of professional basketball players and transform into the dreaded Monstars, prompting the Looney Tunes to recruit Michael Jordan onto their team. LeBron James is expected to play a similar role in the Space Jam sequel.

Directed by Malcolm D. Lee from a script written by Ryan Coogler and Sev Ohanian, Space Jam 2 stars LeBron James, Sonequa Martin-Green as Savannah James, Ceyair J. Wright as LeBron “Bronny” James Jr, and Don Cheadle. Ryan Coogler is also on board as a producer alongside LeBron James under his SpringHill Entertainment label, Duncan Henderson, and SpringHill’s Maverick Carter. Executive producers include Justin Lin, Sev Ohanian, and Jamal Henderson.

Space Jam 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 16, 2021.
