‘Doom Patrol’: Matt Bomer To Voice Negative Man In ‘Titans’ Spinoff

Brendan Fraser announced today that Matt Bomer (White Collar) has joined the cast of Doom Patrol the live-action Titans spin-off set exclusively for the DC Universe streaming service.

Bomer will provide the voice for Negative Man portraying Larry Trainor in flashback scenes, Fraser revealed. Fraser is providing the voice for Cliff Steel, the former race car driver who was involved in a horrific accident that left his body uninhabitable but his brain was saved by the mysterious leader of the Doom Patrol, Dr. Caulder and he lives on in a powerful robotic body. Fraser will appear in flashback scenes as Cliff Steele while Bomer will provide the voiceover for Robotman in modern day. Riley Shanahan is providing the character’s physical performance.

Bomer will join Fraser and April Bowlby who reprises her Titans role in the streaming service’s live-action Doom Patrol series, along with Joivan Wade as Cyborg, and Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane.

Doom Patrol is a spin-off from Titans, the upcoming series set to premiere on the DC Universe streaming service later this year. The Doom Patrol is a team of unusual superheroes that would work together to stop equally-bizarre threats in the comics.

The series hails from mega-producer Greg Berlanti and has landed a 13-episode, straight-to-series order at DC Universe. Jeremy Carver is writing the series and executive producing alongside Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns. Here’s the official synopsis:

DOOM PATROL IS A REIMAGINING OF ONE OF DC’S MOST BELOVED GROUP OF OUTCAST SUPERHEROES: ROBOTMAN, NEGATIVE MAN, ELASTI-GIRL AND CRAZY JANE AND LED BY MODERN-DAY MAD SCIENTIST DR. NILES CAULDER (THE CHIEF). THE DOOM PATROL’S MEMBERS EACH SUFFERED ACCIDENTS THAT GAVE THEM SUPERHUMAN ABILITIES — BUT ALSO LEFT THEM SCARRED AND DISFIGURED. TRAUMATIZED AND DOWNTRODDEN, THE TEAM FOUND PURPOSE THROUGH THE CHIEF, WHO BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER TO INVESTIGATE THE WEIRDEST PHENOMENA IN EXISTENCE — AND TO PROTECT EARTH FROM WHAT THEY FIND. PART SUPPORT GROUP, PART SUPERHERO TEAM, THE DOOM PATROL IS A BAND OF SUPER-POWERED FREAKS WHO FIGHT FOR A WORLD THAT WANTS NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM. THE DRAMA PICKS UP AFTER THE EVENTS OF TITANS— WHICH IS ALSO IN THE WORKS AT DC UNIVERSE AND PRODUCED BY BERLANTI — DOOM PATROL WILL FIND THE RELUCTANT HEROES IN A PLACE THEY NEVER EXPECTED TO BE, CALLED TO ACTION BY CYBORG, WHO COMES TO THEM WITH A MISSION HARD TO REFUSE, BUT WITH A WARNING THAT IS HARD TO IGNORE: THEIR LIVES WILL NEVER, EVER BE THE SAME.

Doom Patrol is expected to debut in 2019.
