‘Dope’s Kiersey Clemons Top Contender For Female Lead In ‘The Flash’

It’s been slow on The Flash movie news since Dope director Rick Famuyiwa was hired to helm the upcoming film on the fastest man alive, but now we are starting to get more news on the upcoming project as the film may have just landed its first new talent since Ezra Miller. Variety is reporting that Dope’s Kiersey Clemons is currently in the running for the female lead role in The Flash film.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit is also reporting that British singer Rita Ora and Lucy Boynton (Sense & Sensibility, Sing Street) are also in the running for the female lead that is most likely the character of Iris West, which Variety went on to speculate as well.

In the Flash lore, Iris is the ace reporter at Central City Picture News and is the great love of Barry Allen as well as the aunt of Wally West/Kid Flash and the grandmother of Bart Allen/Impulse. Back in March, Heroic Hollywood’s founder Umberto Gonzalez reported on 5 characters that were actively being cast for The Flash film, one of them being Iris who was being described as followed:

“Iris West is described in the breakdown as having Christiane Amanpour’s brains and Carrie Bradshaw’s style. An overcaffinated doe. A reporter at The Central City Citizen. Actresses are currently testing for this part.”

Iris West is also a big part of The CW’s The Flash TV show, which airs on Tuesday nights at 8/7c, where she is played by the magnificent Candice Patton.

UPDATE: Variety’s Justin Kroll, who broke the news, has also revealed that Clemons is reportedly also going to cameo in the Justice League film that is currently in production in London.

The Flash starring Ezra Miller is set to come out in theaters on March 18, 2016.
