‘Dune: Part Two’ Finds Its Feyd-Rautha In ‘Elvis’ Star Austin Butler

The 'Dune' sequel finds a major antagonist.

Austin Butler Feyd-Rautha Dune Part Two

Elvis star Austin Butler is in talks to play Feyd-Rautha in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two.

The sheer scale of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel, Dune, led to Denis Villeneuve’s decision to split the novel into two films. Naturally, this meant that while the first film set the stage for the epic conflicts to come, much of the book was left out. This included the character of Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the heir to House Harkonnen and younger nephew of the insidious Baron Harkonnen. This latest casting news confirms Feyd-Rautha is coming in Dune: Part Two.

Austin Butler landed his breakout role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019, where he played the murderer and Manson Family member, Tex Watson. Since then, he has been cast in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, where he will be taking on the title role of the iconic singer. This latest casting announcement from Deadline sees Austin Butler stepping into the villainous role previously played by Sting in David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Dune.

In the book, Feyd-Rautha is favored by his uncle over his older brother, Glossu Rabban, played by Dave Bautista in 2021’s Dune: Part One. Like his uncle, Feyd embodies the cruel and sadistic nature of the Harkonnens and comes close to killing Paul Atreides. The news comes alongside word that Black Widow‘s Florence Pugh is also in talks to star in the Dune sequel.

Here is the synopsis for Dune:

Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.

Denis Villeneuve directed Dune from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and David Dastmalchian.

Dune is now available on home media formats, with Part Two hitting theaters on October 20, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
