New photos from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune reveal the first official look at the characters played by Zendaya and Aquaman star Jason Momoa.

Warner Bros. is set to offer audiences a new feature film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune with Arrival director Denis Villeneuve at the helm. Previously described by Villeneuve as a dream project of his, the new adaptation will feature an ensemble cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Aquaman star Jason Momoa, and many more.

Now, Vanity Fair has unveiled several new photos that offer fans their first look at the cast of characters featured in Dune. Included in the gallery is a photo of Zendaya as Chani, who is described as a mysterious woman who haunts Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides in his dreams as a vision. An additional photo reveals the first look at Aquaman star Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, a warrior who serves as a mentor to young Paul.

Dune was first adapted into a feature film in 1984 by director David Lynch, receiving mixed reviews but becoming a cult favorite. In 2000, the novel was later adapted as a miniseries on the Sci-Fi channel.

Denis Villeneuve is also helming the pilot of a Dune television series for Warner Bros. in addition to serving as an executive producer on the project. A release date for the Dune series has yet to be announced.

Directed Denis Villeneuve from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth, Dune stars by Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

Dune is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18, 2020.
