Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia confirmed the Dwayne Johnson film will be set in the DCEU with Shazam.
After Justice League debuted to disappointing reviews and box office figures, Warner Bros. reassessed its plans for the DCEU and opted to avoid forcing the interconnectivity between the individual films while keeping them within the same universe. Of course, this had led some to wonder where Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam stands in the DCEU considering Zachary Levi’s Shazam is not expected to appear in the anti-hero’s standalone film.
During an interview with ComicBook.com, Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia confirmed Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero will exist in the DCEU alongside Shazam. Furthermore, Garcia teased their ambitious plans to bring Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam together with Shazam and other characters yet to be introduced:
“So first, because this is the same world as Shazam where everything is doing their own separate world. We have plans for our own version, we’re starting to craft a DC universe there around Black Adam, Shazam and so forth and the plans for characters we have that are going to be introduced and so forth. Because ultimately we love the idea of a shared universe. I think the fans love the idea of a shared universe. They love seeing these characters interact. So we have very ambitious plans. How are we going to do that and orchestrate it and it’s all in the works.”

Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will introduce Hawkman, Doctor Fate, and the Justice Society of America to the DCEU. Warner Bros. and DC’s Shazam! was originally going to feature Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam before the decision was made to give the character his own standalone film. Here’s the official synopsis for the Shazam! movie:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quick.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
