Dwayne Johnson shared another Black Adam training update with filming just around the corner. In the post, he also called the upcoming film a “passion project.”
A Black Adam standalone film has been in the works for years now, but it looks like the project is about to become a reality. The film took huge steps forward a few months ago when Dwayne Johnson announced Black Adam‘s December 2021 release date along with an awesome piece of concept art from digital artist BossLogic.
Black Adam is currently scheduled to begin filming in the Summer, which means Dwayne Johnson is hard at work getting in supervillain shape. On Instagram, Dwayne Johnson shared another update on his Black Adam training and said this about the upcoming DC film:
“The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change. Training and prep for #BlackAdam has been a grind but this passion project outweighs the sacrifices. Truth, justice and the Black Adam way.”

Black Adam will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, with Joker‘s Lawrence Sher attached as the film’s cinematographer. Black Adam will also introduce Hawkman, Doctor Fate and the Justice Society of America to the DC Extended Universe.
It’s expected that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam will eventually face off against Zachary Levi’s Shazam in a future film as well. A sequel to Shazam is also in the works with Zachary Levi set to return, a script from Henry Gayden, David F. Sandberg set to direct, and a April 1, 2022 release date. In the meantime, you can watch the first Shazam! film:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
Black Adam will be released in theaters on December 22, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on Black Adam, Shazam 2, and the rest of the DC Extended Universe!
