Director Jake Kasdan offered an update on the status of Dwayne Johnson’s Jumanji 4.
Twenty-two years after the first Jumanji film debuted, the franchise was brought back to the silver screen with a new installment starring Dwayne Johnson. The new film proved to be a box office hit, grossing $962.1 million worldwide and leading to a successful sequel that was released late last year.
The latest film, titled Jumanji: The Next Level, set up the possibility for a fourth entry in the franchise and director Jake Kasdan offered fans an update on the sequel during an interview with Collider. As Kasdan explained, the fourth Jumanji film is in early development and conversations about the Dwayne Johnson film were just starting before the coronavirus pandemic brought Hollywood and the rest of the world to a halt:
“We’re just starting to talk about all of that, and the truth is we’ve barely started. We were just getting into the conversation before this global calamity and we will re-engage it as soon as everybody’s settled. We all love working together and we’ve loved making these. To me, the thing that’s always been most critical when talking about a sequel, first in the first movie and now in the possibility of another sequel is, it would have to be exciting on its own two feet in a way that’s comparable to what the first two were for me. I would have to love the idea just as much. So I think there will be a third one and it’s just the earliest days of trying to figure out what that would be.”
