Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to welcome Hawkman actor Aldis Hodge to the cast of Black Adam.

Aldis Hodge, who recently starred in the horror hit The Invisible Man and will soon be seen in Regina King’s directorial debut One Night in Miami, has been cast as Hawkman for Black Adam. Hawkman is set to make his big screen debut in the upcoming comic book movie alongside other members of the Justice Society of America, including Atom Smasher and Doctor Fate.

Last night, Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson dropped an Instagram post to officially announce Aldis Hodge’s casting as Hawkman. In it, Johnson shared his excitement about working with Hodge on the movie, which is expected to begin production in a few months. Johnson also included a transcript of the phone call in which he told Hodge that he got the gig. You can check it out below.

Jaume Collet-Serra is directing Black Adam from a script written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, working on a previous draft by Adam Sztykiel. The Dwayne Johnson movie is expected to introduce Hawkman, Doctor Fate and the Justice Society of America to the DC Extended Universe. New Line and DC’s Shazam! was originally going to feature Black Adam before the decision was made to give the character his own standalone film.

In the meantime, fans can still re-watch the original Shazam! film on all home media formats:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quick.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.

Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Black Adam is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 22, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Dwayne Johnson and the upcoming movie, and make sure to susbscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
