Universal Pictures has set the wheels in motion for a new addition to its Fast and Furious franchise. The studio has announced that it is developing an untitled Fast and Furious movie, with none other than Dwayne Johnson taking the driver’s seat as Luke Hobbs. The screenplay will be penned by Chris Morgan, a long-standing collaborator of the franchise.
Joining forces with Dwayne Johnson in the production realm are a powerhouse team of Hollywood heavyweights. The list includes include Johnson himself, along with Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, representing their company Seven Bucks Productions.
Also onboard is the Fast and Furious franchise’s stalwart, Vin Diesel, producing through his One Race Films alongside Samantha Vincent. Furthermore, Chris Morgan is bringing his expertise to the project as a producer through Chris Morgan Productions, alongside Jeff Kirschenbaum from Roth/Kirschenbaum Films and Neal Moritz from Original Film.
A wrestler-turned-actor, Dwayne Johnson first joined the Fast and Furious world in 2011 with Fast Five, playing the character of Luke Hobbs. The beloved actor had previously turned down an invitation from co-star Vin Diesel to be part of Fast X, amidst rumors of a simmering feud between the two muscular icons.
Dwayne Johnson’s Fast and Furious return materializes after his superhero movie Black Adam fell short of box office expectations. Despite a respectable gross of $393.3 million, Black Adam‘s performance was deemed underwhelming in comparison to other recent superhero blockbusters. As such, Teth-Adam won’t be featured in the upcoming DC Universe plans orchestrated by celebrated creators James Gunn and Peter Safran.
