Details about Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film have been kept close to the chest ever since it was announced back in 2020. During a recent interview, Waititi reveals the struggles he’s been having with the film’s script.
Fans have eagerly been awaiting any update on the Taika Waititi-led Star Wars film. While it was announced at the start of this month that production on the film will begin sometime next year, almost no details have been revealed about the concept of the project in over three years. Waititi revealed in a recent interview that, while his idea is good, he’s struggling with the film’s second act:
“I’ve got a really good idea for it,” Waititi told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s just as with all films, it’s this middle part. You’re like, ‘What’s going to happen?’ And then you look at all of those films that are so great, you’re like, ‘Well, I guess they can’t meet some smuggler with an alien sidekick.'”
For anyone familiar with screenwriting, the second act of any story is usually where most of the struggles come in. It’s no shock that Taika Waititi would be snagged on that portion, especially given his tendency to improvise on set. While Waititi is an Academy Award-winning director, the lack of a concrete script this close to release may cause some fans to worry his Star Wars film may be pushed back even further, especially as the WGA Writers strike prevents him from continuing work on it for the time being.
