Matt Reeves is cooking up another banger for DC Studios! A new report reveals an animated movie following the early years of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd is in the works.
For as much turmoil as the franchise has had over the years, one thing has been consistent among DC fans: they’ve wanted to see the Dynamic Duo on the big screen. Be it in James Gunn’s reboot universe or Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, Dick Grayson or Jason Todd, fans have been begging for Robin to make his grand return to the world of feature films. And it seems, in a way, that wish is finally being granted.
James Gunn recently took to Instagram to announce that Dynamic Duo has officially been greenlit by DC Studios. The project is an animated origin film following the early years of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. While Matt Reeves will produce the film, it is confirmed to not be canon to The Batman universe. It has yet to be confirmed nor denied whether this will be canon to Gunn’s mainline DC Universe reboot.
The Talent Behind DC Studios’ Dynamic Duo
Dynamic Duo is set to be a collaboration between James Gunn’s DC Studios, Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions, and animation house Swaybox Studio. Swaybox uses a mixed-media model of animation known as “Momo animation.” This combines puppetry with live-action performances, CGI, and stop-motion to create breathtaking scenes unlike any other in the business. Their reel can be seen below as an example of how Jason Todd and Dick Grayson could look on the silver screen.
James Gunn and Matt Reeves have also assembled an all-star crew for DC Studios’ freshman animated film. Dynamic Duo will be directed by Swaybox Studio founder Arthur Mintz, and will be penned by Matthew Aldrich. The award-winning writer is best known for his work on Pixar’s Coco, as well as the thriller Spinning Man.
