It’s Clobberin’ Time at San Diego Comic-Con! New artwork revealed ahead of SDCC gives fans a new look at Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing for The Fantastic Four.
The Thing is one of the hardest characters to get right in any adaptation of The Fantastic Four. Ben Grimm has to be a beast of stone, yet express more than possibly any other hero on the team. However, it seems Marvel will be treating Ebon Moss-Bachrach right in the upcoming film, with new art from San Diego Comic-Con revealing the shape of the iconic golem.
This SDCC artwork is the closest The Thing has looked to his comic counterpart in twenty years. It’s clear that Marvel wants to make Ebon Moss-Bachrach look straight out of the comics in The Fantastic Four, especially given how badly the last reboot’s design was received. While only a taste of Ben Grimm’s aesthetic, it’s likely his full look will be unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach Trains Hard For The Thing
Even though Ebon Moss-Bachrach will be entirely encased in stone during The Fantastic Four, that doesn’t mean it’s an easy job. Ahead of this SDCC art surfacing online, the actor revealed that he’s reading a lot of comics to prepare for the role of Ben Grimm. Apparently, Marvel even gave him its whole digital comic book catalog for free!
In the same interview, Ebon Moss-Bachrach revealed that The Thing will be entirely CGI in The Fantastic Four. He admitted that, while Marvel had used practical costumes in the past, they weren’t too practical by modern-day standards. It seems Ben Grimm will just be a man in spandex until the VFX team comes in!
The Fantastic Four opens on July 25, 2025. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
