During the San Diego Comic-Con panel for Terminator: Dark Fate, James Cameron confirmed Eddie Furlong will reprise his role as John Connor in the new R-rated film.
Set decades after the events of Terminator: Judgement Day, director Tim Miller and producer James Cameron’s Dark Fate will disregard all films that followed the aforementioned sequel while passing the baton to a new cast of characters, with Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger on hand to usher in the new era. However, James Cameron has now confirmed that Eddie Furlong, who portrayed the young John Connor in Terminator: Judgement, will also reprise his iconic role in the new film, though details on his part in the story were not divulged.
Eddie Furlong launched his film career in Terminator: Judgement Day and the father-son-type chemistry with Arnold Schwarzenegger is regarded as one the many reasons the sequel works. While Terminator: Rise of the Machines was expected to feature the return of Eddie Furlong, the role of John Connor was ultimately recast with Nick Stahl.
