It seems as though El Muerto is back from the dead! Despite Bad Bunny leaving the project, Sony is still working on getting the Spider-Man spin-off to the big screen.
The past few months haven’t been kind to El Muerto. Between Bad Bunny leaving the project last September and the film being taken off Sony’s release schedules, many assumed it was yet another movie focused on Spider-Man’s villains that bit the dust. However, according to Variety, the spin-off is still alive, with Sony currently searching for a new lead for the project.
El Muerto has always been an odd case for Sony. The project was originally conceived when the studio gave musician Bad Bunny carte blanche to pick any Spider-Man villain for a spin-off, leaving many to assume the project was dead once he left the leading role. Yet it seems Sony is committed to not letting a bad idea die. Here’s to hoping Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter revive faith in Sony’s dying cinematic universe.
