Daredevil star Charlie Cox says that Foggy Nelson actor Elden Henson was cast because of audition error that occurred on the actor’s phone.
In Daredevil, Elden Henson played Matt Murdock’s best friend and business partner, Foggy Nelson. At first, he was unaware of Matt’s activities as Daredevil which eventually became a source of tension between the two as the show went on. As it turned out, however, Elden Henson may have gotten the role of Foggy Nelson because of a mistake he made with his phone for his audition.
While speaking to Comicbook.com, Charlie Cox told a story that he heard of how Elden Henson got the Daredevil part. Apparently, the actor held the phone incorrectly, forcing the people watching to tilt their heads and thinking that this was something Foggy Nelson would do:
“The story I’ve heard about Elden, which I don’t know if I’ve ever spoke to him about it, but the story I had about Elden was that he — and this is kind of what helped him get the part, apparently — was that he did the audition on iPhone. But they were watching it live, the studio was watching it, Jeph [Loeb] was watching it live. But, he filmed it and he was holding it the wrong way around, so they all had to watch his audition like this [tilts head.] Because, he was holding it incorrectly, the phone. And, they asked him, they were like, ‘It doesn’t really matter how he did it.’ That is Foggy. That’s exactly what Foggy would do.”
