Is the Scarlet Witch officially making her return? Elizabeth Olsen gives her thoughts on why she just can’t stay away from the MCU.
In recent years, Elizabeth Olsen has become one of the biggest faces in the MCU due to her masterful portrayal of the Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff. Fans have been eagerly awaiting her return to the franchise. However, during her sabbatical, the actress has once more dived headfirst into the world of arthouse and experimental films.
This genre change has created a rather interesting fracture among Elizabeth Olsen’s fans. While many who first discovered her in the MCU yearn for her to return as the Scarlet Witch, there are others who believe that she has finally “escaped” the dying franchise, and shouldn’t swim back to a sinking ship. However, it seems Olsen herself still harbors love for the world of capes and cowls.
“It’s the consistency of a community and a job, which is hard to find,” Olsen told Instyle in a recent interview.” The insane camera movement, stunt work, and special effects, visual effects that are happening in real time.”
“It’s a lot of coordination, it’s hundreds and hundreds of people on set, and it’s a powerful thing to be a part of all those people working towards one goal. The people doing the visual effects are artists.”
Will The Scarlet Witch Return To The MCU?
In an industry as tumultuous as acting, it does make sense that an actor like Elizabeth Olsen would find refuge in such a safe and familiar role. The actress also remarked that, while it’s always important to take a break from roles like the Scarlet Witch, she’s more than ready to make a return.
“We’re grown people behaving like children on a playground. We’re flying. We’re shooting things out of our hands. And it’s a character that I’ve gotten to return to so many times over 10 years. It’s good to put her down and then I miss her and I want her back. I’d jump at the opportunity to be in her shoes again.”
There’s been a lot of signs in recent months that Elizabeth Olsen may have already made her return to the MCU. It’s highly likely that the Scarlet Witch will play a major role in Avengers: Doomsday. And, given how popular Olsen has become with general audiences, it would make sense to save her involvement for a massive reveal in theaters.
