Elizabeth Olsen has addressed what her next MCU appearance as the Scarlet Witch might look like, following her recent villainous role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Elizabeth Olsen first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wanda Maximoff in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, which saw her transform from a manipulated villain into an aspiring hero. Since then, Wanda has had a difficult relationship with her powers, which came to a head in WandaVision, which saw her discover the terrifying true extent and secret origins of her powers. The series ultimately revealed Wanda to be a prophesied wielder of chaos magic known as the Scarlet Witch.
While Wanda came to terms with the loss of her beloved Vision over the course of WandaVision, the series finale also saw her lose her children and become a feared figure in the eyes of the public. This, along with her exposure to the Darkhold, a book of dark magic, saw her become single-minded and villainous by the time of her return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Return Of The Scarlet Witch
While Wanda appeared to perish in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans remain unconvinced that a character of such significance and power is really gone. Her death was kept conveniently off-screen. If Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is still alive, then fans might be wondering where and when she will next appear in the MCU.
Two rumors currently circulating claim that Elizabeth Olsen will be reprising the role of Wanda Maximoff in the WandaVision spinoff Agatha: House of Harkness on Disney Plus and/or a Scarlet Witch movie. While appearing on Good Morning America to promote her new children’s book Hattie Harmony: Worry Detective, written with husband Robbie Arnett, Olsen was asked about whether she might be appearing in House of Harkness or a solo Marvel movie. The actress revealed:
“I would love to be a part of both of those. No-one tells me anything! And I’m not even hiding a secret, because I’m bad at that. I know nothing about my future!”
Marvel Studios is yet to give any official indication of when the Scarlet Witch may return and it looks like Elizabeth Olsen is well-versed in Marvel’s anti-spoiler practices. However, the actress also appears interested in an MCU return and gave no indication that Wanda was actually killed, possibly suggesting her return is already in the works.
