A new theory outlines how Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch could be the next antagonist for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.

During the Marvel Studios Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige revealed Elizabeth Olsen’s WandaVision would lead directly into Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now, a new theory by Reddit user “cdhelt1225” explains how Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange sequel could result in Elizabeth Olson’s Scarlet Witch becoming the main antagonist of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to the theory, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch could alter reality in an attempt to revive the Vision, who was murdered by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. This would prompt Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange to search for Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch through the Multiverse and consequently face enemies such as Nightmare or Dormammu.

The theory also notes that having Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch alter reality could explain recent changes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For example, Spider-Man’s exit from the MCU after Sony parted ways with Disney and the arrival of the X-Men and Fantastic Four could be attributed to changes made by Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.

WandaVision centers on Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch after the events of Avengers: Endgame and is believed to follow the character after she creates an idyllic world in which The Vision is still alive. The series stars Teyonah Parris as an adult Monica Rambeau, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, and Kathryn Hahn in an undisclosed role

Meanwhile, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2021 with Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as the titular hero. Directed by Scott Derrickson, the Doctor Strange sequel is said to be Marvel Studios first outright horror film and co-stars Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch.

WandaVision is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in the Spring of 2021 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released in theaters on May 7, 2021.
