Is Elizabeth Olsen’s time in the MCU coming to an end? The actress reveals if she still has any desire to return to the silver screen as the Scarlet Witch.
One of the biggest issues of the MCU in recent years is that there hasn’t been a defined “face”. However, if there was any actor who could make the claim to be the current face of the franchise, it would be Elizabeth Olsen. Her performance as the Scarlet Witch has absolutely enraptured the internet in recent years, which has left many disheartened that she hasn’t made her return to the role in quite some time.
This has left many to worry that the actress may finally be done with the franchise, especially given her recent turn toward more “artsy” projects. Yet it seems those fears may be a tad overblown. When speaking about her iconic MCU role with PEOPLE Magazine, Elizabeth Olsen admits that she’ll always feel a desire to return as the Scarlet Witch.
“It is something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to. I think the thing that’s been so special about the last five years is I’ve gotten to do so much with the character that I never thought I would. There are still character through lines that have happened in the comics that I’d love to do that I think fans also want to.”
“I mean, these movies aren’t for critics, these movies are for fan. It’s really fruitful, and the stories have only gotten better for me, my character. I really enjoyed it. Some people have ongoing television series that they get to return to. Very few, I feel like, get to be a part of franchises that, I know we might culturally get a little bit exhausted by, but there is something about them that becomes very familial.”
Will Elizabeth Olsen Return As The Scarlet Witch?
While Elizabeth Olsen has been absent from most live-action projects, the character has had a rather consistent presence in the animated side of the MCU, most recently taking a leading role in the Marvel Zombies series. So even though it’s not the return fans may be hoping for, she is at least still consistently interacting with the franchise.
As for a potential live-action return, that’s a bit trickier. It’s certain that Elizabeth Olsen will appear as the Scarlet Witch in at least one of the two upcoming Avengers projects. As for which one, and for what role she’ll play, the rumor mill has been mostly silent. However, it does seem as though her heritage with Magneto will play a large role in her story going forward in the MCU.
