Emily Blunt revealed that she remains hopeful that a sequel to Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow will still work out.
Edge of Tomorrow starred Tom Cruise as a public relations officer named William Cage, who finds himself trapped in a time loop that sends him back to the day preceding a major battle against alien invaders every time he dies. With help from Emily Blunt’s Sergeant Rita Vrataski, Cage trains and seeks out ways to use the time loop to humanity’s advantage in hopes of defeating the aliens once and for all.
While Edge of Tomorrow was not as big a box office hit as many other Hollywood juggernauts, it was successful enough for a sequel titled Live Die Repeat and Repeat to move forward with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt set to reprise their respective roles. However, getting the sequel off the ground has proven to be difficult due to a combination of the actors’ availability and efforts to rewrite the script, but Emily Blunt told IndieWire she remains hopeful that the “stars will align” for the project to work out:
“I think there’s an idea, that he says is great. And he says this guy came in and cracked the case. How the stars will all align for us to be able to do it. I don’t know. I hope they do.”
While Edge of Tomorrow proved to be physically demanding, Emily Blunt noted that she’s still willing to reunite with Tom Cruise and the rest of the team for the sequel:
“I absolutely adored it. It broke my body in half, but I’d be willing to do it again to work with those boys who I love. So let’s see.”

Here is the official synopsis for Edge of Tomorrow:
The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.
Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
Directed by Doug Liman from a script co-written by Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth, Edge of Tomorrow stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, and Brendan Gleeson.
Edge of Tomorrow is now available on DVD, Blu-ray, and video on demand.
