Emma Corrin has finally spoken out about playing the main villain of Deadpool 3. The Crown breakout had a lot to learn, but now understands why these films mean so much to fans.
Earlier this year, Ryan Reynolds confirmed on his Twitter account that Emma Corrin would be joining the cast of Deadpool 3, with later releases confirming them to be playing the main villain of the film. While details about their character have been kept close to the chest, Corrin has spoken about how excited they are to finally play a villain, calling it an itch they needed to scratch, before detailing the process of being “debriefed” on the continuity of the franchise:
“I was like, ‘Look, you’re gonna have to debrief me into this.’ It’s such an intricate world. There’s so much to it, it’s an absolute mind-fuck,” Corrin told Empire in an interview for A Murder at the End of the World, which took place before the SAG-AFTRA strike. “All the language and the Easter eggs, and this person is related to that person who did this, and this person came back and this person’s dead… it’s amazing…I really understand why it means as much as it does to so many people…It’s a phenomenon, and I feel really lucky to be part of it. Especially Deadpool, because I love the fact that it’s self-aware, and critical of its own inner-workings.”
Given Deadpool 3 is set to bring back Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine to team up with Ryan Reynolds and early set photos showed a destroyed 20th Century Fox logo, the film is certainly going to be one full of references and in-jokes. Despite their unfamiliarity, Emma Corrin seems entirely invested as the main villain of the film, and their filmography suggests they’ll knock the role out of the park.
Who else is attached to the Deadpool threequel?
Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 after working with Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. The upcoming Marvel Studios project also marks a reunion between Levy and Hugh Jackman as the two worked together on Real Steel.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are developing the Deadpool 3 script after penning the first two installments in the series. The Molyneux sisters worked on a previous draft of the project.
Deadpool 3 is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 8, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
Editor’s note: The interview with Emma Corrin was conducted before the initiation of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Since then, the members of SAG-AFTRA, a union representing actors and performers, have been fighting for better work conditions and fair pay. To support their cause, donations can be made to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides vital assistance to SAG-AFTRA professionals facing economic hardship.
