Disney Plus has officially announced when the newest MCU film Eternals will be available to stream.
Marvel Studios’ Eternals hit theaters last month to perhaps the most mixed reception any MCU film has received thus far. Although some praised the film for Chloe Zhao’s different, more intimate approach to superheroes, others have criticized it for numerous reasons including its script and pacing. As the film nears the end of its theatrical run, we now know when the film will be available for fans to stream at home on Disney Plus.
Disney Plus officially announced that Eternals will start streaming on January 12, 2022 – a little over two months since it first debuted in theaters. This window is similar to that of a previous MCU film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which first hit theaters on September 3, 2021 and was made available to stream on November 12, 2021.
In honor of Disney Plus Day last month, numerous MCU films were made available to stream through an IMAX Enhanced presentation, preserving the expanded aspect ratio. Given that Eternals also featured sequences with an expanded aspect ratio, it wouldn’t be surprising if it was made available to stream through such presentation.
Here is the synopsis for the MCU film:
The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.
Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
