Writer Joby Harold has been enlisted to pen Ewan McGregor’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
In January, writer Hossein Amini departed the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Not long after, it was announced that the start of production was being pushed back from August 2020 to January 2021 partly to fine-tune the scripts.
Now, Variety reports that its sources say Joby Harold has been enlisted as the new writer of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Representatives for Harold and Disney Plus reportedly did not immediately respond to the outlet’s request for comment.
Before joining the Ewan McGregor series, Joby Harold’s writing credits included Awake, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and Zack Snyder’s upcoming film Army of the Dead. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will mark Joby Harold’s first time penning a television project.
Directed by Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series is just one of three officially announced Star Wars shows for Disney Plus. The Mandalorian debuted on the streaming service this past November with stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.
An untitled Rogue One prequel centered on Cassian Andor is also in development with Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk reprising their respective roles. The Americans producer Stephen Schiff serves as showrunner and the series is expected to begin filming this year.
